Journal of Christian Religious Studies (Jocres) 6 (3):205-214. 2026Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a game-changer in biblical scholarship for the past few years, as its technologies, particularly machine learning and natural language processing, has become more sophisticated and already reshaping the various methodologies used to analyze Scriptures. This paper examines the significant opportunities and the inherent challenges presented by AI in the area of biblical scholarship. Qualitative method of research is employed. The research found out that enhanced capabilities in textual criticism, accelerated linguistic analysis are opportunities AI presents to biblical scholarship. However, the adoption of AI also raises critical challenges, such as the potential for algorithmic bias, the risk of devaluing human interpretive skills in biblical scholarship, and the ethical implications of using AI to generate theological conclusions that has no consistent logic. The paper argues that though AI should be viewed as a powerful tool to augment, it should not replace traditional and human scholarly methods. ( direct link )
